Beauty in His Time - Release Day!

Hi Reader,

This week I went to the post office to mail some copies of my book to my amazingly supportive endorsers. As we finalized the transaction, the young lady behind the counter asked,
“Did you write this book? What is it about?”
I gave her a high-level overview, and her eyes widened with intrigue.
“My mom is Jamaican and my dad is African American. I can’t imagine the culture clash you went through. I feel it, especially about school, between me and my cousins.”
My mind raced as to how to share my book with her. I didn’t have a bookmark or an extra copy with me. (Note to self: always have a copy or card on me) I quickly looked up the listing on Amazon, and she took a picture of it before we parted ways.

When my publisher asked me who was the intended audience for this book, I thought of the women in my age-range, but I also envisioned young ladies like her. As I continue to get feedback on the book, I have also been encouraged by the men who have read and enjoyed it! Three of the endorsements featured in the book are by men who enjoyed the lessons in my journey. We have all been touched by issues of identity, relationships and belonging. I am grateful for the memories conjured and the conversations spurred because of my story.

My story finds hope in Ecclesiastes 3:11
"He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end."

I am still in awe of God's faithfulness throughout this process. He has taken an experience that felt so painful and used it to form something beautiful, for His glory.

Today is release day!! Beauty in His Time is officially available on Amazon in paperback or digital format. If you haven’t bought your copy yet, please do! And if you know someone who will be encouraged by this story, please feel free to spread the word.

This week I will celebrate this milestone with family and friends. I’ll be sure to share a few pictures next time.

Soli Deo Gloria,

A View of the World

Hi Reader, When I was ten years old, I made my first solo trip to the United States. I flew to Florida from Jamaica to visit friends and eventually, my grandmother who lived in Jacksonville. That’s me in a handmade skirt and shirt made by my mom. Complete with a straw hat in hand and a box of gifts at my feet, I was the image of a Caribbean girl in a new world. That trip opened my appetite for travel; it was the first of many solo trips. It’s taken me almost a decade to compile, write and...

Hi Reader, It's probably the worst kept secret at this point...my book is available on Amazon for purchase! Long story short, it was launched sooner than expected, and I would like to use these last few weeks before the official launch date to build up reviews on the site. Can I ask you to purchase a copy, read it over the next month and post a review? Reviews are critical to convince potential buyers to purchase a book! If you've never been an Amazon review type of person--this is your time...

Hi Reader, My old neighbor passed away in Jamaica last month. He was the kind of neighbor whose driveway was included in our bicycle loop; whose wife handed us bags of fruit across the fence; and whose voice bellowed harmonies as we sang together in church each Sunday. We have not lived in that neighborhood for years, but the memories we shared became alive as we thought of his family mourning his passing. In the Caribbean, as in many other parts of the world, elders such as my childhood...
